The Algarve is best known for its promise of 300 days of sun, however there is more to the Algarve than first meets the eye.

Beach diversity

Some of the best beaches in the world can be found in the Algarve with golden sands and clear waters. The 200km stretch of coast offers endless fun and exploration for families. The calm waters of the East coast and the blue flagged and golden quality awarded beaches of Barril, Tavira, Manta Rota and Altura highlight the quality of the beach and water environments. These beaches are manned by lifeguards, have a number of restaurants nearby and are well equipped with shower facilities and sports equipment for hire.

The Algarve is home to over a 130 beaches; 88 of which are blue flag beaches.
The coast line stretches out over 200 km and offers visitors: coves, cliffs, caves, rocky beaches, sand beaches and dunes.

Praia Grande / Armação de Pêra

All of the Algarve’s Blue Flag beaches are family-friendly, providing safe waters and clean sands for visitors to enjoy. The calm waters of the east coast beaches of Barril, Tavira, Manta Rota and Altura are perfect for families and are manned by lifeguards while the vast sandy beaches of the central coastline are also popular. Beaches found along the Algarve’s west coast number some of the most scenic and alluring in the country and offer fantastic surfing opportunities. Algarve beach are also particularly renowned, for being perfect for families.
